Friday, 20 January, 2006 - Dodgeball POSTPONED Hey fellow dodge ball enthusiast, there has been a delay in the start of the dodge ball league. I have been informed the league will not start until Monday February 6th which will take us into our rugby season there will not be any overlap in the events but some of the guys may not be allowed out of the house for three nights of the week. Hopefully the late start will not detour anyone from playing. I'll talk to you all at Touch Rugby on Sunday, 11:30 at Kettering Rec. or if you cant make that, then practice Tuesday (8 PM Stebbins SAC).
Monday, 16 January, 2006 - Dodgeball Relives! Dodgeball is back. The organizational meeting was Monday, 16 January at 7:30 p.m. in Flanagan's Pub. Games will be played at Gateway Sports Park (1103 Gateway Drive, Dayton, Ohio 45404) on Monday's from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. beginning 23 January going through 27 February. Cost per team is $250.00 so we need at least 10 people to make it cheap (and more in case someone blows a knee).
A look back on 2005 Monday, 21 February, 2005 - Week 6 First: Thank you Dear Leader Ben Kessler for making this happen. Perhaps you will last longer than thirty seconds next season. Get well, some day! DARC entered the tournament as neither Underdog, nor Overlord (22-23), rather Middle-fo-the-pack, Cream-of-the-crap, Worst-of-the-Best, Average-of-Averages. We faced Dodge This and were dropped 1-2, which sent us to the loser's bracket, sent (less-than)Average Johnson's packing in two, then got an early flight home after going 1-2 against Badges with Balls II, ferociously defended by TIMMY! who is, hands down, the stand-out ball chucker for this, our inaugural season. So, we will not be spending Saint Patrick's Day at the Nutter Center . Rest up for next season. Women, get your pitching arms ready! See you next season! Match 1 v. Dodge This Man of the Match: The Sommers Brothers! Game 1: winner! 1. Nathan 2. Doc - missed catch 3. Stump 4. Monday, 14 February, 2005 - Week 5 Happy St. Valentine's Day. We went 4-5. That sux. Coach and Betty Borg showed up for support. Ah, love. Match 1 v. Average Johnsons Man of the Match: Nathan, for his winning catch! Game 1: winner! 1. Stump 2. Wright State Greg 3. quack 4. Billy - missed catch 5. Doc Nathan wins with a catch! | Game 2: loss 1. Schreel Billy throws the winner! Stump, Tim, Greg all remained. | Game 2: loss 1. Nathan - missed catch 2. Doc 3. Greg - on a catch 4. Stump 5. Timmy! 6. Billy | Game 3: loss 1. Schreel - on a catch 2. Doc 3. quack - on a catch 4. Billy 5. Stump 6. Timmy - on a catch |
Monday, 7 February, 2005 - Week 4 After the abuse one referee took last week, he didn't bother showing this week (well, maybe he was busy). It proved an interesting night with many missed calls and plenty of arguing. Average Johnsons is awarded the "Worst Sportsmanship" award after their incessant arguing. Geez, it's just a game boys (and girls). DARC started off the night strong taking their first match, 3-0, but came up on the losing side for the first time in 4 weeks going 1-2 (3-0, 0-3, 1-2) on the night. However, the guys are rapidly improving and didn't have a blue line foul! Match 1 v. Fairborn United Man of the Match: Schreel Game 1: winner! 1. Quack - out on a catch 2. Billy 3. Wright State Greg 4. Timmy! Schreel throws the winner! Nathan remained | Game 2: winner! Stump throws the winner! Timmy!, Schreel, Billy, Nathan and Greg remained | Game 3: winner! 1. Stump - missed catch 2. Greg - missed catch 3. Nathan 4. Timmy! 5. Quack Schreel throws the winner! | Flannigan's proved to be too much. Twice DARC outnumbered them with players but still came up on the short end of the stick. Match 2 v. Flanagan's Man of the Match: Kristen Game 1: loss 1. Billy 2. Quack - out on a catch 3. Greg 4. Nathan - missed catch 5. Timmy! 6. Schreel | Game 2: loss 1. Stump 2. Schreel 3. Nathan - missed catch 4. Timmy! 5. Quack - missed catch 6. Greg, Nathan subbed | Game 3: loss 1. Schreel - out on a catch 2. Nathan 3. Greg 4. Quack 5. Billy 6. Timmy! | DARC was looking good to take their third match of the night against an evenly matched team. They came up just short in the third game after some questionable calls by the referee. Match 3 v. Badges & Balls II Man of the Match: Nathan Game 1: loss 1. Timmy! - out on a catch 2. Billy 3. Quack - missed catch 4. Nathan 5. Greg 6. Schreel | Game 2: winner! 1. Billy - out on a catch 2. Schreel 3. Greg 4. Quack Nathan catches the winner! Timmy! remained | Game 3: loss 1. Nathan 2. Quack 3. Greg 4. Billy 5. Timmy! 6. Schreel - out on a catch |
Monday, 31 January, 2005 - Week 3 This night proved to be a little disappointing for the DARC dodgeball team. Although the team came out on the winning side for the night going 2-1 (2-1, 2-1, 1-2), they lost several games when they had a considerable advantage and did not take the third game in two matches, causing the team to lose ground to the Ligers, who likely moved into second place. The team also had more blue line fouls than normal and had some referee issues (and boyhowdy, were the refs getting abused by everyone). Flannigan's remains in first place but lost their first game last night, proving that they are not untouchable. We are halfway through the dodgeball season and Dayton remains in the hunt for first or second place to secure a spot in the championship at the halftime of the inagural Arena Football game at the Nutter Center. If you haven't been out to a match yet, please join us! We have new people stopping by every week -- Come root the team on to victory! Also, sometime in late February on a Friday night, there will be a dodgeball tournament with 30 teams . It will be a one nighter, if you are interested, multiple teams could be entered from our club. I will pass on more details when I have them. Match 1 v. Patchwork Man of the Match: "So Pretty" Foley Game 1: winner! 1. Nathan 2. Foley - out on a catch Stump with the winner Schreel and Doc remained. | Game 2: loss 1. Billy - blue line foul 2. Quack 3. Schreel - blue line foul 4. Stump 5. Timmy 6. Doc | Game 3: winner! 1. Stump - blue line foul 2. Schreel - blue line foul 3. Timmy 4. Nathan - out on a catch 5. Doc Foley with the winner! | Match 2 v. Fairborn United Man of the Match: Quack Game 1: loss 1. Quack - missed catch 2. Nathan 3. Doc 4. Timmy 5. Billy - blue line foul 6. Foley | Game 2: winner! 1. Schreel - out on grabbed ball 2. Nathan - missed catch Timmy throws the winner! Billy, Stump and Doc remained. | Game 3: winner! Quack catches the winner! Doc, Foley, Billy, Stump, Schreel remained. | Match 3 v. Ligers Man of the Match: Timmy! Game 1: winner! 1. Doc 2. Stump 3. Foley 4. Timmy 5. Quack Schreel throws the winner! | Game 2: loss 1. Schreel - blue line foul 2. Nathan 3. Stump 4. Billy 5. Quack 6. Timmy! | Game 3: loss 1. Stump Foley - missed catch 3. Doc - missed catch 4. Billy 5. Quack 6. Timmy! - out on a catch |
Monday, 24 January, 2005 - Week 2 Despite hobbled Dear Leader Ben , this week's matches displayed increased intensity with nine games under everyone's belts, strategery was summoned, so each match took a little bit longer to complete. Flannigan's proved to be the top team again this week, good news is their strongest player is interested in playing rugby! DARC finished on the winning side with a 2-1 (2-1, 2-1, 1-2) record. This week also saw the addition of a few new players: Jason "I need sox" Henry Ovie "Skinny Puppy - No Barf" Michaelman Wright-State "Chris, Dave, John, whatever" Greg. Match 1 v. Badges & Balls II Man of the Match: Stump Game 1: loss 1. Stump 2. Schreel 3. Ovie 4. Foley - out on a catch 5. Nathan 6. Quack - missed catch | Game 2: loss 1. Greg - blue line foul 2. Doc 3. Nathan - missed catch 4. Quack - missed catch 5. Tim 6. Stump | Game 3: winner! 1. Tim 2. Foley 3. Ovie 4. Schreel 5. Quack - missed catch Ryan throws the winner! | After losing the first match, Dayton came out extremely agressive in their second match and it paid off for them (except for a little over-eagerness in the game two). Match 2 v. Fairborn United Man of the Match: Timmy! Game 1: winner! 1. Quack - missed catch 2. Doc Jason throws the winner! Greg, Stump, Nathan all remained. | Game 2: loss 1. Stump - missed catch 2. Foley 3. Ovie - missed catch 4. Nathan - missed catch 5. Schreel 6. Tim | Game 3: winner! Tim throws the winner! Greg, Jason, quack, Doc, Schreel all remained | Dayton carried confidence into their final match of the night. Dayton easily out-matched Badges & Balls I, but struggled in the first game with a little over-agression. They quickly pulled it together for the last 2 games. Match 3 v. Badges & Balls Man of the Match: Nathan/Quack Game 1: loss 1. Schreel 2. Ovie 3. Nathan - missed catch 4. Doc 5. Stump - missed catch 6. Tim - missed catch | Game 2: winner! 1. Foley 2. Jason Quack throws the winner! Greg, Doc, and Tim all remained. | Game 3: winner! 1. Ovie 2. Quack Nathan wins it with a catch! Greg, Stump, Schreel all remained. | Congratulations to the team for another fine performance this week! Cheers, kristen. Monday, 17 January, 2005 - Week 1 Thanks to our statistician: Kristen... Tonight the Dayton Area Rugby Club Dodgeball Team kicked off our inaugural season! Kitting up for the team were: Dear Leader Ben "The Gimp" Kessler Billy "The Kid" Sommer Timmy "Teemay!" Sommer Nathan "Defacto Captain" Webber Chris "No Mercy" Schreel Kevin "Choke Hold" Foley Doc "Rich Henderson" Doc "Blue Line" Quack Ryan "Grubb, Stump, Ball Magnet" Moeller After the referees quickly went over the rules, Dayton hoped to watch a few games but instead drew the first match of the night. There was a general anxiousness in the crowd, as few knew exactly what to expect. But Dayton started out strong playing some great offense. Details below and the order people were knocked out. Match 1 v. Badges & Balls Man of the Match : Stump
Game 1: winner! 1. Quack - foot fault 2. Billy 3. Chris 4. Nathan 5. Foley Stump throws the winner! | Game 2: loss 1. Quack - blue line fault 2. Tim 3. Nathan 4. Ben 5. Chris 6. Foley | Game 3: winner! 1. Quack 2. Kevin 3. Billy - blue line fault 4. Tim Nathan throws the winner! Stump remained. | The second match was against the toughest team of the night. They were quite young and quite strong. Potential to be excellent rugby recruites I might add. Dayton showed a bit of fatigue as they were pushed to the back wall and forced to dodge shot after shot, getting minimal offensive opportunities.Match 2 v. Flannigan's Man of the Match: Billy Game 1: loss 1. Foley 2. Schreel 3. Quack 4. Nathan 5. Stump 6. Billy | Game 2: loss 1. Nathan 2. Tim 3. Doc 4. Quack 5. Chris 6. Stump | Game 3: loss 1. Doc 2. Tim 3. Kevin 4. Nathan 5. Stump 6. Billy | Dayton came back strong in the final match of the night playing extremely aggressive ball. They also used their defensive experience from the prior 2 matches (and the other 4 they watched) to their advantage, but tired at the end.Match 3 v. Ligers Man of the Match: Quack Game 1: winner 1. Chris Quack throws the winner! Timmy, Foley, Stump, Nathan all remained. | Game 2: winner 1. Nathan 2. Foley 3. Stump 4. Chris Quack throws the winner! Doc remained. | Game 3: loss 1. Quack 2. Doc 3. Stump 4. Billy 5. Timmy Timeout: Nathan in / Ben out 6. Nathan (on a 6 on 1 - yowch!) |
Congratulations to the team for going 2-1 (2-1, 0-3, 2-1) on their first night. ... And a sad announcement. Benjamin Kessler, Dear Leader of the dodgeball team, bravely started the season with an injured knee however it proved to be season-ending, and will be taking over coaching duties for the team. Be advised there will be a retirement party for him in the near future. And when he comes out of retirement next year, we'll have a party then too. Notes: -- Professional Wrestler (and star of MTV's Tough Enough Competition) Al Snow plays dodgeball! That's right! This Lima, Ohio, native competed on the Badges & Balls II team. He's too big to run. Heh. -- The top two teams in the leage will be playing for the championship during half-time intermission of the Arena Football opening game at the Nutter Center! Talk about potential exposure for the club! Please come out and support the guys in their quest for dodgeball greatness! -- A special thanks to the cheerleaders that came out to support the team. The matches are EXTREMELY entertaining. I encourage everyone to come out at some point and take in a match or three! Cheerleaders: Kristin Schreel, Lily & Kate, Grubb, Sara, Emily, Butler Next week's match time: 8 p.m. (schedule). Be there! Cheers, kristen. Sunday, 8 January, 2005 Had a little training sesson after the AGM. Unfortunately Dear Leader suffered a twisted knee, as did two or three others. Had to retire to the Fieldhouse for treatment.Followed this up with chalk talk and a training tape. Monday, 3 January, 2005 Our Dear Leader Ben K. writes: "The league is set back two weeks and will start 17 January, 2005, running six weeks long, which will alow us to get in better shape. I have placed a deposit down with the money recieved at Sunday's meeting. With the two weeks delay, hopefully, we all can get together during one of the Thursday drink ups which vary in location. When more info comes avalibable I'll send out a meeting time to collect dues and drink beers. People who I know are coming, I'll try to get ahold of by phone." Ben Sunday, 2 January, 2005 Welcome to the New Year! Today we held our first DARC Dodge Ball AGM, chaired by Ben Kessler reporting on specifics for the upcoming eight-week season. The venue will be Gateway Sports Park on Stanley Ave, just south of SR-4. Games are best-of-three and will be played on Mondays (our first game is Monday, 3 January, 2005), with kickoff either 8:00 p.m. or 9:00 p.m. Our uniform will be rugby kit so bring your rugby shorts and rugby socks, a team jumper will be supplied by our Dear Leader. Dues will be $25 U.S. First to pay means first to play, sure starters being Nathan, then quack. The roster includes: Ben K., Billy, Kevin, Nathan, Jason, Chris S., Ovie, quack, with DJ and Grubb as stand-by. Cheerleaders are: Kristen J. The sports park has its own bar, so that might encourage some support. Stay tuned for updates. Thursday, 16 December, 2004 "If you can dodge a wrench you can dodge a ball" What: Dodge ball Why: winter conditioning, team building, a reason to leave the house, wife, kids, and if needed a reason to drink. When:Monday nights for eight weeks starting January 3rd either eight or nine O'clock. Where: Gateway Sports Park 1103 Gateway Drive Dayton, Ohio 45404
Unfortunately the sports center only has men's leagues. They tried to put together Co-ed but not enough interest, but cheerleaders and groupies are always welcome. I see this league as an opportunity to stay in contact and get off the couch. The teams will play three matches against three different teams each Monday night. The teams can start six people and sub two during the matches. I'm hoping to have at least ten on the rooster to start. You show up you will play. Fees is $250 for a team which would run twenty five dollars a head. Please reply if you want in and the level you will be committed, like "I'll be there all the time," "...half of the time," "I'll meet you at the bar," or "I will play but not allowed to drink on Mondays." For everybody else who is scared of the ball and or is too pretty to get hit by the ball come out and cheer us on or drink up with us. I'll update you all in a week about how its unfolding. Kessler
